Solar of MAMAMOO is stepping into the spotlight as the “horror queen” of late summer with her big screen debut in the horror film 'Phantom Market', which premieres in theaters nationwide on September 17 KST.
'Phantom Market' tells a chilling tale set in a ghost-trading marketplace that opens when the fox window creaks open. The film follows eerie events triggered by people driven by their obsession to possess what they cannot have.
In the film, Solar plays Mi-yeon, a young woman who visits a rural village in pursuit of her dream to become a famous writer. There, she becomes entangled with a mysterious ancient tree revered as the village guardian and soon finds herself caught in an unsettling series of events.
As Solar’s first film role, Phantom Market has sparked great anticipation among fans. Known for her powerful vocals and strong stage presence, Solar has already proven her acting skills through major musicals such as 'Mata Hari' and 'Notre-Dame de Paris'. Her transition to the screen is highly anticipated.
Through her agency, Solar shared her thoughts on the experience: “I’m truly honored to make my big screen debut through Phantom Market. Thanks to the incredible director and kind-hearted staff, I felt comfortable and happy throughout the shoot. I was even more grateful to share the experience with people who are special to me.”
She added, “Though I may still be inexperienced, I hope my sincerity comes through. I’d be so happy if you enjoy the film. I’ll continue working hard to show even better sides of myself. Thank you.”
With her ever-expanding repertoire that now includes musicals and films, Solar continues to demonstrate her limitless artistic range.
Adding to the excitement, she will hold her solo concert, Solar 3rd CONCERT ‘Solaris’, on October 11–12 at Yonsei University’s Centennial Memorial Hall in Seoul. Audiences can expect a rich setlist and powerful live performances from the artist fans trust for vocal excellence.
