Former NCT member Taeil sentenced to prison
On July 10, the 26th criminal division of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced former NCT member Taeil (31), as well as 2 other defendants, to 3 years and 6 months in prison. The court also ordered the defendants to complete 40 hours of educational programming related to sexual violence and to register all 3 defendants as sexual offenders in their neighborhoods of residence. These individuals will also be banned from working professionally in a career field related to children and youth for the next 5 years.
Details of the criminal complaint filed by the prosecution
Following the latest ruling, the details of the criminal complaint filed with the prosecution have been revealed:
"The three defendants, including Taeil, are friends. Around 2:33 AM on June 13, they happened to meet the victim, a Chinese woman, at a club in Itaewon and drank alcohol together. They then forcibly dragged the victim into a taxi and took her to a villa in Bangbae-dong, which was the residence of one of the defendants. From around 4:00 to 4:30 AM on the same day, while the victim was unconscious from intoxication, they took turns gang-raping her."
"The incident occurred on June 13. Over the next two months, the police tracked down the defendants and, after analyzing CCTV footage, conducted search and seizure operations on the suspects."
"Messages in a group chat show that the defendants were aware the victim was a foreigner and discussed deliberately having the taxi designated at a location different from the crime scene to avoid being tracked."
"This case involves the defendants meeting an unknown Chinese female tourist at a club in Itaewon and taking her to a residence in Bangbae-dong, where the three of them gang-raped her. The case is extremely serious and the nature of the crime is particularly heinous."
"The defendants are claiming the crime was unplanned, but it's highly questionable whether it’s even remotely reasonable for them to say they randomly decided to take a Chinese tourist they had just met in Itaewon to a villa in Bangbae-dong at 2 AM just to drink more alcohol. If they hadn’t premeditated the crime, there would’ve been no reason to take such actions."
Korean netizens' reaction
With the details of the criminal complaint revealed, Korean netizens are further shocked and disturbed by Taeil's actions. They gathered in a popular online community to share their reaction to the latest details and commented:
"Ugh."
"Gross."
"They should be sent to China to be executed or physical castration..."
"I never thought a scandal on the level of Seungri's would happen again in the idol world."
"Seriously... wth..."
"This is so disgusting."
"There's no way this is their first time. The way they acted doesn’t seem like it’s their first time."

"A gang rape... are they insane? This is so vile."
"Wow... seriously insane. I’ve never seen a crime like this in the idol world. Judging by their actions, I doubt it's their first time."
"Please send them to China."
"More shocking than drugs. How did someone like that even become an idol?"
"Could someone really be this systematic if it’s their first offense?"
"Ugh... so filthy."
"What gives me chills is that he did something this insane and then went on live streaming the next day."
"What a piece of trash."
"What did I just read..."
"How can you do something like that and still show your face in public?"
"Wow..."
"It was clearly premeditated... lol wow."
"Since the victim is Chinese, please take him to China and punish him under Chinese law."
"How can a first-timer be so calculated and detailed..? Ugh, disgusting."
