Actor Ha Jung Woo’s agency has issued an apology over a recent controversy involving his social media activity.
On July 21, his agency, Walk House Company, stated, “We sincerely apologize to the individual who may have felt uncomfortable regarding our artist’s social media activity,” adding, “The actor has personally reached out to the fan to apologize and speak with them directly.”
They continued, “We promise to be more cautious and mindful in our communication with fans moving forward to prevent such incidents from recurring.”
The issue arose on July 20, when a fan with the last name Choi left a comment on Ha Jung Woo’s Instagram asking him to give them a nickname. In response, Ha Jung Woo replied with “Choi-eumje” (a Korean word that phonetically resembles “aphrodisiac”). The fan seemed pleased and responded with, “I love you.”
However, other users reacted negatively, leaving comments such as “What?” and “‘Choi-eumje’: a term referring to substances that stimulate sexual desire. And she replies with ‘I love you’? Sigh, the intelligence level…”
In light of the backlash, the agency issued a formal apology on Ha Jung Woo’s behalf.
Meanwhile, Ha Jung Woo is set to appear in the upcoming tvN drama 'How to Become a Building Owner in Korea', written by Oh Han Ki and directed by Lim Pil Sung.
