Yunho, a member of the group TVXQ, has donated 50 million KRW (approximately $38,000 USD) to the Community Chest of Korea to help victims affected by record-breaking torrential rains.
His donation will be used to provide emergency relief, temporary housing, living expenses, and recovery aid for residents in regions heavily damaged by the recent downpours.
Yunho shared, “I hope this can be of some help to our neighbors who are suffering from the sudden flood damage,” adding, “Please don’t lose hope even in these difficult times, and take good care of your health. I sincerely wish for a swift return to normal life.”
This is not Yunho’s first act of generosity. He has consistently donated to disaster relief efforts, including during the Gangneung wildfires in 2023, the East Coast wildfires in 2022, the COVID-19 emergency fund in 2020, and the Gangwon wildfire in 2019. In 2022, he also joined the Honor Society—a group for major donors who contribute over 100 million KRW(approximately $75,000 USD)—becoming a leading figure in spreading a culture of giving.
Meanwhile, the Community Chest of Korea is running a special fundraising campaign to support flood victims through August 17. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, as of July 20, the heavy rains have caused 28 deaths and displaced more than 9,700 households across the country.
