The production team of the popular South Korean dating show 'I Am Solo,' broadcast by ENA and SBS Plus, has announced the removal of footage featuring a contestant who was recently arrested on charges of sexual assault.
In an official statement released on their YouTube community page on June 24, the producers said, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to the many viewers who love 'I Am Solo.'"
The team acknowledged that they were made aware of the alleged crime committed by Mr. Park, a man in his 30s, earlier that morning. Park was arrested on June 21 on suspicion of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s and is currently being held at the Mapo Police Station detention center.
Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the production team stated, "We will ensure future broadcasts are edited in a way that minimizes discomfort for viewers. We will also do our best to remove or edit the already aired segments involving the contestant."
They issued a renewed apology, saying, "Despite repeated warnings, this incident occurred, and we take full responsibility." The team added that they will strengthen post-filming management practices to prevent such incidents from recurring.
This is not the first time 'I Am Solo' has faced controversy surrounding its cast members. In the 23rd season, a contestant named Jeong Sook, who was introduced as a former Miss Korea, was edited out of the program after past allegations of involvement in compensated dating and theft from 13 years ago resurfaced.
Additionally, another contestant from the 10th season, also named Jeong Sook, received a 7 million KRW (about $5140) fine in her first trial for assaulting a taxi passenger by slapping the victim six times during a fare dispute and damaging their mobile phone.
