Actor Ahn Nae Sang revealed his candid reaction to Kim Gyu Ri joining the film 'The Pact,' expressing sheer disbelief upon hearing the news.
During the production briefing held on the morning of May 29 at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul, Ahn Nae Sang shared his experience working on the upcoming film 'The Pact,' directed by Kim Nam Gyoon.
Described as an occult political thriller, 'The Pact' follows the fierce battle between a woman who uses mysterious forces to seize power and those who seek to uncover the immense truth behind her dark ambitions. The film has garnered intense public interest since the teaser release, particularly for its controversial premise that appears to allude to former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife, Kim Keon Hee.
Ahn, who plays the role of Joo Sung Hwan, admitted that he initially found the screenplay absurd. “It was so outrageous that I wondered if I could even read such a script,” he laughed. “I’ve been completely disconnected from the world—didn’t watch the news or care about politics. When I finally read the script, it was full of absurd, impossible events. I didn’t plan on doing it.”
The casting of Kim Gyu Ri as the lead, Yoon Ji Hee. “When I heard she was cast, I thought, ‘Is she crazy? No one in their right mind would take this role,’” he recalled. “And then they said Openmind TV’s YouTube channel is producing it. As I went through the process of checking whether this story was real or fiction, I found myself increasingly intrigued. That’s when I thought, maybe I should try this.”
Ahn also shared that the film resonated with him on a personal level. “As someone who’s been cut off from the world, seeing chaos unfold—martial law threats, social unrest—and young people my daughter’s age shouting while holding flashing lights, I began to question if I should remain a bystander. This film gave me a reason to raise my voice in some way. That’s why I decided to take on 'The Pact.'”
He added with a chuckle, “Strangely enough, we finished filming in just a month. We started around mid-March, and now the release is already set for June 2. It all feels surreal. 'The Pact' is definitely a bizarre project for me.”
'The Pact' is scheduled to hit Korean theaters on June 2.
