The upcoming musical romance film 'Midnight Sun,' starring Jung Ji So and Cha Hak Yeon (N) (also known as VIXX’s N), is officially set to hit theaters on June 11, according to distributor BY4M Studio.
Originally scheduled for release on May 28, the film’s opening date has been pushed back in hopes of attracting a broader audience just ahead of the summer holiday season.
Directed by Jo Young Jun, 'Midnight Sun' is a remake of the 2007 Japanese film of the same name. The story follows Misol (played by Jung Ji So), a young woman who can only go out at night, and Min Jun (played by Cha Hak Yeon), a boy who meets her under the moonlight. As they bond through music, the two begin a heartwarming journey of love and shared dreams.
The original 'Midnight Sun' has already enjoyed success not only in Japan but also in Hollywood, where it was adapted into a U.S. version that touched audiences worldwide. The Korean remake aims to reinterpret the beloved story with a fresh emotional depth, offering a unique blend of local sentiment and universal themes.
Both leads are set to showcase their vocal talents in the film’s soundtrack, adding an authentic layer to the musical experience. Notably, singer-songwriter Lee Chan Hyuk of Akdong Musician (AKMU) makes his debut as a film music director, bringing his creative musical vision and a roster of hits to elevate the overall production.
Capturing the passion, vulnerability, and dreams of youth, 'Midnight Sun' is expected to resonate with viewers of all ages. The film opens in Korean cinemas on June 11, 2025.
