Elkie Chong, a former member of the K-pop girl group CLC, is currently receiving hospital treatment after collapsing from carbon monoxide poisoning.
On May 2, Chong shared an update on her condition via Instagram, posting photos from her hospital bed as well as an image taken at the scene, showing the back of an emergency responder who helped rescue her.
“I woke up yesterday morning with a headache,” Chong wrote. “I was about to say ‘I took medicine’ when everything suddenly turned white before my eyes. I collapsed, hitting everything around me.” She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, where she was diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to Chong, the cause is believed to be a gas leak. “There was no smell, no smoke, no sound,” she said. “I just thought I was tired, sleepy, and had a headache lately. I really had no idea.”
She is currently undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy and assured fans that her condition is now stable. She also expressed gratitude to the friends who helped her during the emergency.
Chong emphasized the importance of recognizing the dangers of carbon monoxide and urged others to take preventive measures by ensuring proper ventilation and installing carbon monoxide detectors.
Born in Hong Kong in 1998, Elkie Chong joined CLC in 2016 and made her official debut in the Korean music industry. She left Cube Entertainment and the group in February 2021.
