
On May 23, Disney+ Korea showcased its ambitious upcoming content strategy during its '2025 Open House event' held at the Walt Disney Company Korea headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul.
The event brought together key industry figures, including Choi Yeon Woo, Head of Local Content at Walt Disney Company Korea, Kim Won Guk, CEO of Hive Media Corp. (producer of 'Made in Korea'), and Yoo Jung Hoon, CEO of MERRYCHRISTMAS (producer of 'A Shop for Killers').
The event provided insights into Disney+'s future direction for local content and unveiled details on several highly anticipated projects. Choi highlighted the platform’s rapid growth, noting that “since launching in 2021, Disney+ has introduced over 40 Korean original series, broadening our content offerings while actively supporting the growth of Korea’s entertainment industry.”
She emphasized the global appeal of Korean storytelling, stating, “Our content has not only resonated in Korea but has also proven the universal reach and global expansion potential of K-storytelling.”
Disney+ announced plans to continue expanding its global footprint through diverse genres and experimental formats in Korean content. Notably, Korean titles made up nine of the top 15 most-watched local original shows on Disney+ globally for two consecutive years (2023–2024), underscoring their international success.


Choi also unveiled several major titles set for release in the second half of 2025, including 'Tempest,' 'Made in Korea,' 'Low Life,' 'The Murky Stream,' and 'The Manipulated.' Among them, 'Tempest' was introduced as a tentpole series for the platform.


Starring Jun Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, the thriller follows Moon Joo (Jun Ji Hyun), a renowned diplomat and former UN ambassador, who partners with a mysterious special agent, Sanho (Kang Dong Won), to uncover the truth behind a massive conspiracy. “In terms of scale, storytelling, and production, 'Tempest' is one of our most anticipated flagship projects for the year,” Choi said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Disney+ also teased new titles such as 'Delusion,' starring Suzy and Kim Seon Ho, and an original variety show 'The War of Destiny 49.' The platform reaffirmed its commitment to boosting the scale and diversity of Korean content, stating, “As the influence of Korean content continues to grow across film, drama, and variety formats, global platforms like Disney+ are playing a pivotal role in driving innovation and ecosystem growth.”
Disney+ concluded by reiterating its dedication to becoming a key global platform for K-content through close collaboration with outstanding Korean partners, with the goal of delivering immersive and entertaining stories to audiences worldwide.
