Actor and former basketball player Oh Seung Hwan has shared an update on his life, revealing the reason he suddenly disappeared from the public eye after a life-altering accident that left him in a wheelchair for the past six years.
On January 9, a video titled 'The Choice That Changed My Life in an Instant' was released on the YouTube channel WERACLE. In the video, creator Park We introduced Oh Seung Hwan, saying, “I met a younger brother who is helping lead the Korean Wave.”
During the interview, Oh Seung Hwan explained, “I used to work as an actor and model, but now I’m active as a live creator under the name Wooni, using a wheelchair.” Although he was once actively appearing on broadcasts, he suddenly vanished from the spotlight. Today, he has risen to become a global star, ranking first on TikTok Live in Korea, but his journey back into the public eye was far from easy.
Oh Seung Hwan revealed that he spent nearly three years living in the hospital. He recalled that one of his doctors once told him, “There’s someone who uses a wheelchair but is incredibly positive. I really want you to meet him,” which was how he had already known of Park We before they met. He added, “I’ve been in a wheelchair for about six years now,” before sharing the details of the accident that changed his life.
“It was winter, and I was heading home after work. I slipped on an icy patch near a flower bed inside my apartment complex and fell,” he explained. “I injured the back of my neck when I fell, and from that moment, the direction of my life completely changed.” He went on to say that he suffered injuries to his fifth and sixth cervical vertebrae. “My right leg has improved a lot, but my left side is still paralyzed, almost like hemiplegia,” he said, describing his current condition.

Despite his popularity on TikTok, Oh Seung Hwan intentionally avoided showing his wheelchair in his content. Explaining why, he said, “I didn’t want people to think I was using my injury to gain attention or do broadcasts.” Park We thanked him for bravely choosing to appear in the interview in his wheelchair, to which Oh Seung Hwan responded, “When I arrived on set and saw you welcoming me in a wheelchair, I didn’t want to move to a chair on purpose.” His words left a deep emotional impression.
Reflecting on the early days after his injury, Oh Seung Hwan admitted that it was difficult to steady his emotions. “Sometimes I think that if I had focused on rehabilitation earlier and managed my mindset better, my condition might be better than it is now,” he said candidly. Park We offered encouragement, replying, “I don’t think it’s too late even now,” expressing support for Oh Seung Hwan’s ongoing journey.
