On the January 9 broadcast of KBS2's 'Music Bank', SAY MY NAME clenched their first ever #1 trophy on a music program since debut with their latest title track, "UFO (ATTENT!ON)".
Upon being announced as this week's #1 winners, nearly all of the members of SAY MY NAME broke into tears of joy. Amidst the tears and emotions, leader Hitomi took the trophy and the mic to relay the group's acceptance speech. She said, "This is the first time since our debut that we've won first place. I can't believe that the moment that we've always dreamed of since debut has actually come. It is such an honor to achieve such a meaningful feat on the first 'Music Bank' broadcast of the year. I believe that this trophy was possible only because of all those who helped us, supported us, and loved us. I would like to take this time to express our sincerest gratitude to all of you."
After Hitomi, member Dohee also took the mic to convey their thanks to the fans, staff, and the group's producer, Kim Jaejoong.
In particular, SAY MY NAME's #1 win seemed to be a significantly meaningful achievement for Hitomi, who made her third official idol debut through SAY MY NAME following her time in AKB48 in Japan and IZ*ONE in Korea. In fact, despite her numerous past #1 trophies won through her group IZ*ONE, Hitomi displayed a sincerity in her current role as a member of SAY MY NAME that moved many netizens. Onlookers also pointed out Hitomi's perfect acceptance speech in Korean, marveling at her fluency:
"It must have been so much pressure for her to start all over again from the ground with all the trophies that her old group earned TT."
"Her Korean is soooooo good."
"I can imagine how much anxiety she must have had going through training and debuting all over again."
"She literally said yesterday that there were people who outright told her she should have stayed in Japan instead of taking a risk.. It must have been so stressful."
"After going through everything she went back to the status of trainee and then took on the position of leader TT. It had to have been a huge burden."
"Her courage for taking the risk is so admirable."
"I'm always cheering you on Hitomi!!"
"I remember how a lot of the other IZ*ONE members cried just like this when they re-debuted with their permanent groups TT."
