Singer Crush has revealed a deeply personal glimpse into his struggles following back surgery.
On May 20th, Crush posted a video and a set of lyrics on Instagram, seemingly from an unreleased or upcoming track. The lyrics reflect the emotional and physical toll of undergoing surgery for a herniated disc, a condition that forced him to halt activities in June 2023.
"I learned how to live in the pitch-black silence. Turn the switch off," he wrote. "Turn off the lights—there's no feeling in my legs. A whole day passed staring at the ceiling. I wanted to dive deep into the ocean. I saw my mom and dad cry."
He continued, "Lying in a damp hospital room, I saw my reflection in the window. I didn't want to hear any sound. The smell of the operating room still lingers in my nose. Every melody feels like bitter poison. I can't swallow it. I'd rather shut off the switch in my head, just so I can breathe a little tonight."
Referencing a performance at Yonsei University, he added, "Back then, I had to go on despite the pain—injecting painkillers just to stand on stage. Can I ever stand there again? Shall we dance with me?"
These lyrics, filled with raw vulnerability, appear to encapsulate the emotions he experienced during his treatment and recovery process.
Crush underwent spinal surgery last year due to a rapidly worsening herniated disc. His agency, P Nation, explained at the time that medical professionals deemed surgery unavoidable and emphasized that the artist’s health was their top priority.
Later in December, Crush opened up on YouTube channel ‘Yongtaro,’ saying, “I had to take four months off after the surgery. For about two months, I was completely bedridden. At first, I thought I’d enjoy the break, but I quickly became emotionally drained.”
Fans have expressed their support and admiration for Crush’s honesty, hoping for his continued recovery and return to the stage.
