How netizens are reacting to NCT Dream being the first NCT unit to win #1 on all three major broadcast music shows

AKP STAFF

NCT Dream made a successful comeback earlier this month with the release of their first full-length album 'Hot Sauce.'

The NCT unit group has been setting multiple records as they became the first group from SM Entertainment to sell over 1 million album copies during the first weeks of sales. Then NCT Dream officially became 'Double Million Sellers' 16-days after the release of 'Hot Sauce.'

With multiple records being set, NCT Dream is also sweeping up the awards on various music programs as they take the number 1 place with their title track of the same title.

NCT Dream took first place on Mnet's 'M Countdown,' MBC's 'Show! Music Core,' and SBS's 'Inkigayo' with dominating scores. The boys were able to beat their competition with scores that are almost or over double, proving their popularity.

Netizens were impressed with the results that the NCT unit was able to yield as they were able to release their first full-length album successfully. Netizens commented various things on social media, saying, "I think SM just needs to wake up and support them better now. I feel sometimes the agency is the anti-fans, lol," "I want the company to support their artists better, and send them out on more variety shows," "I know it might be funny to set records within the NCT groups but the group's really competitive," "NCT Dream's fandom size is really growing," "Congrats to them but SM needs to do better in promoting their artists," and "I feel like crying, congrats NCT Dream."

I have a possible explanation.

In Dream's earlier days, their fandom consisted primarily of teens and younger. Now that they're grown up, their young fans grew up with them + with songs like "Stronger" and "Boom," they've grabbed the attention of NCT 127 fans. Then after NCT 2020, they've picked up even more international fans due to their participation in "90s Love," "Make a Wish," and the rest. Lastly, in "Hot Sauce" some of the lyric is Spanish, that most likely boosted sales in that market as well.

I'm too lazy to look up numbers. This is just my guess.

I feel like, as a unit, NCT Dream does get underestimated and overlooked a lot, by the company and by Kpop fans in general. Like, people constantly complain about other unit's lack of promotions or mismanagement but here, NCT Dream has been out for almost 5 years and this is their first full album. Also, when people talk about groups with hard choreographies and amazing danceability, NCT Dream is rarely mentioned but they have some of the most complex choreographies out there. But I'm glad to see they have a loyal fanbase (especially a loyal Korean fanbase) who were outspoken enough that SM Entertainment heard them. Making NCT Dream a fixed unit is probably the best decision SM has ever made for the group and I'm glad they're able to prove to the world that they're no longer those cute boys who rolled on on hoverboards singing bout chewing gum. They've grown so much over the years.
