Singer Vince revealed the story behind collaborating with BIGBANG’s G-Dragon on a new track.

Vince recently held an interview at a café in Yongsan, Seoul, to commemorate the release of his new digital single "CHA CHA CHA" (feat. G-Dragon).

"CHA CHA CHA" is a hip-hop/R&B track that blends a smooth melody with the lively Latin cha-cha rhythm. Vince’s groovy and emotional vocals create the mood of a breezy summer night, while G-Dragon’s rhythmic rap as a feature elevates the song’s excitement even further.

How did their collaboration come about? Vince explained, “After G-Dragon completed his military service, he was preparing BIGBANG group songs and solo tracks, so he often visited The Black Label studio. At the time, I was working on "CHA CHA CHA," and one of the producers I was with casually asked him, ‘There’s a song by Vince called ‘CHA CHA CHA.’ Would you feature on it?’ He listened and immediately said, ‘Vince, do you want to be a star?’ I answered, ‘Yes, I really want to. Please help me,’ and from then on he willingly joined the project. He helped me with everything.”

Although Vince has built popularity in the global music market through collaborations with Taeyang, Jeon Somi, Meovv, All Day Project, and the OST for the Netflix film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters', he admitted he still feels unsatisfied. “I want to become a star. G-Dragon rarely does features, but whenever he does, the songs perform really well. For me, I’ll feel like I’ve ‘made it’ only if this song also does well on the charts. Right now, there are a lot of The Black Label tracks in Melon’s Top 10. I hope ‘CHA CHA CHA’ can join them.”

The release of ‘CHA CHA CHA’ carries special meaning as well, since it drops on August 18 — G-Dragon’s birthday. Vince laughed as he recalled, “It wasn’t intentional, but I definitely wanted to release this song in summer. I didn’t want to miss the season, but since so many artists at The Black Label were releasing music, this was the only timing left. I once joked to G-Dragon, ‘If things go well, this might come out on your birthday,’ and it actually happened, which feels a little awkward. But in a way, it feels like a gift from him to me. I think fans will also enjoy hearing his voice again on his birthday.”

Was "CHA CHA CHA" always meant to have a featuring artist? Vince explained, “Originally there was a second verse, but some people thought it felt a little empty. So I thought, ‘It would be nice to have a feature.’ I didn’t have anyone in mind, but the company suggested G-Dragon. He was my No. 1 choice — my only option. When he agreed right away, the rest came together without hesitation.”

He added, “I was there during his recording, but he wrote, directed, and arranged his part entirely on his own. I learned a lot as a musician just by watching. Not only did he contribute his own lyrics and music, but he also gave feedback on parts beyond his own verse, asking things like, ‘How about this? What if we try that?’ It made the whole process much more fun.”

Vince’s new digital single "CHA CHA CHA" will be released on August 18 at 6 p.m. KST through various online music platforms.
