Criminalization of abortion is ruled unconstitutional in South Korea

Today the Constitutional Court of Korea ruled the criminalization of abortion is unconstitutional. This means having an abortion is finally legal. The current law against abortion will have to be amended by the end of 2020.

"South Korea's Constitutional Court on Thursday ruled as unconstitutional a 66-year-old law that made abortion a crime punishable by up to two years in prison, calling for an amendment to the law. In its ruling, the court called the anti-abortion law 'an unconstitutional restriction that violates a pregnant woman’s right to choose.' But it left it to Parliament to decide whether to restrict abortions in the late stages of a pregnancy." - New YorkTimes

(Great news blogger who provided real-time information on this case and many others in English:

)

Considering the horrible abuse cases we've witnessed in the past weeks I figured that providing this information might bring a bit of solace to those who yearn for societal change and a pivotal moment for women's rights.

    That's indeed good news. Abortions there were criminalized back in 1953, and finally, after so many years, they became legal. I think it's a great thing and will make the lives of thousands of women easier. Personally, I believe that abortion should be legalized everywhere, and it should be up to women to decide what to do with their lives and bodies. It's one of the most discussed and controversial issues, and I see some posts or discussions about it every day. I started "digging" into it just recently, and just because I need to write a paper on it. I've also come across this site https://supremestudy.com/essay-examples/abortion/ where I found various abortion essay examples which will help me to write my own paper but also provided me with interesting information, which I will also add to my paper. I also found abortion laws of different countries and their history, and honestly, I just can't understand why in the 21st century, abortion is not legalized. But I hope for the best.
