Kpop Going Greek? Greek Mythology in Kpop

Fun fact: if you say "Asian Greeks" fast enough, it sounds like "ancient Greeks".

Moving on to the important stuff, Greek mythology has more than once provided inspiration for idol group concepts. Whether you love it or hate, you cannot deny that the MVs tend to be extremely aesthetic.

SF9 just recently released a teaser for their 6th mini album titled "NARCISSUS" set to drop on the 20th of this month, and I could not help but be reminded of one of gugudan's albums from 2017 similarly titled "Act.2 Narcissus". Here are a few others I found.

Disclaimer: This post is neither meant to compare different groups nor is it a complete compilation of Greek concepts, so comment about the ones I forgot below.

SF9 - coming soon...

gugudan - title song: A Girl Like Me

This bop makes you want to flip your hair like a boss, and can we please give their stylists a raise?

VIXX - 2016 Conception Trilogy (Ker)

Concept kings indeed! Honestly, Starlights were very spoiled that year. You too can spoil yourself with these 3 unique sounds.

Sunmi - "Warning" - title song: Siren

Have you tried the mermaid dance yet?

BTS - "Wings" - title song: Blood Sweat & Tears

The MV is set in the likes of a Hellenic museum, and this particular scene shows Icarus in the painting in the background. Read more about it in various fan theories.

And finally... Nine Muses

In light of their disbandment news, I will pay tribute by recommending 2 of their newer songs Remember and Love City.

  1. (Bangtan Boys) BTS
  2. Gugudan
  3. Nine Muses
  4. SF9
  5. Sunmi
  6. VIXX
