As reported last month, EXO will be the first K-pop group honored by the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation (KOMSCO). KOMSCO said, "We will be minting an official medal for EXO, who is the top idol group in Korea and in the center of Hallyu, and release it in April." KOMSCO is also responsible for creating the Pyeongchang Olympics medals.

There will be a special package version and a regular version. Each medal will be minted in pure silver (99.9%), and the designs will be the same, but the size and package will be different. The medals were designed by the official currency designers in Korea using the characteristics of each members' faces.
The special packages will go on pre-sale starting April 23 at noon KST, and one person will only be able to buy one set. The regular package will go on sale at noon KST on April 30. The medals will only be sold for a week, and then the exact amount ordered will be minted.
