Singer and actor Cha Eun Woo is facing growing scrutiny as his recent tax controversy extends into his military service.
According to reports, a civil complaint was filed through South Korea’s government’s online petition system, requesting a review of his current assignment in the military band. The petitioner argued that the role, which involves frequent public appearances and represents the military externally, should be reassessed in light of the recent controversy.
The complaint also raised concerns about fairness among active duty soldiers, stating that maintaining the current position could affect morale and create a sense of imbalance.
Despite the petition, the Ministry of National Defense maintained that military assignments are determined under existing personnel regulations and that there are currently no discussions or decisions regarding a change in his position. The ministry also clarified that tax related issues do not fall under military misconduct requiring investigation.
While some observers believe a reassignment is unlikely, the controversy appears to be widening as it reaches into military matters.
