The magazine uses half of its proceeds to help the homeless by hiring those individuals as sales clerks at magazine vendors. After the photo shoot, the actor was quickly interviewed on various topics including the reason for him working with the magazine.
"'Big Issue' is a magazine that I have been interested in since it started in Korea. I was really touched when I saw the homeless individuals working so hard. I'm honored to be on the cover of the New Year's edition," Ryu Joon Yeol said. The actor also gave some advice to those who wish to give back to the community but who haven't taken the first step, "It's important to make it a habit instead of only talking about it. Happiness is something you should share with others."
