The first round voting will take place between October 26 - November 12, in order to determine the winners of Melon's Top 10 out of the Top 40 nominees, as well as Top Artist, Top Album, Top Song, Rookie of the Year, and more. Anyone who is a member of 'Melon Music' can vote in the first round.
The Top 40 was selected by combining an artist's downloads count (60%) + streaming count (40%), and is as follows, in random order: Nucksal, Red Velvet, MAMAMOO, Mad Clown, BTS, Bolbbalgan4, Black Pink, BTOB, Big Bang, Seventeen, Soyu, Suran, 20 Years of Age, Psy, IU, Akdong Musician, A Pink, Ailee, EXO, G-Friend, Woo Won Jae, Wanna One, WINNER, Yoon Jong Shin, Zion.T, Jung Seung Hwan, Sechskies, G-Dragon, Zico, Chanyeol, Crush, Taeyeon, TWICE, Punch, Highlight, Hangzoo, Heize, Hyukoh, Hwang Chi Yeol, and the only foreign artist on the list, Ed Sheeran.
