In the midst of the controversial issues in recreating the tragic event of the 'Sewol Ferry' accident into a film, it appears the crowdfunding site 'Keedari Funding' has ceased the project on March 24.

The movie was originally slated for April 2018, four years after the tragedy. However, the crowdfunding site made an official statement saying they will be halting the crowdfunding project due to complications within the production process as well as on behalf of the victim's families as they are still in mourning.

The movie had been met with much controversy, as many thought it was improper since families were still in mourning and such a tragedy shouldn't be made into a movie for any reasons.

i think eventually the movie will be made, but right now is WAYYYYY too soon.

Maybe after another 5 decades. It just too early. And that the tragedy is just too heartbreaking. Families are still morning and looking for the bodies of their children.

I don't think movie is appropriate. Sure there is movie about Titanic, but it sank ages ago so it's not nearly as fresh. Movie even if tragedy has main purpose of being entertaining and making profit- it's not right for this incident to be either. If it was document movie however I think it would be fine, but movie movie nope.

I could have sworn that korea drown that ship to make their own titanic version , such evil and hypocritical goverment and industry only care about money .

If this incident ended with an happy ending like that Sully incident then fine but not when it ended in such a tragedy! Even if a movie based on a tragedy is filmed in Hollywood they make sure it's not that short after the incident.. and even there People were more sad then happy about the movies . They can make a documentary but a movie is a bit to much

this is a real story about families losing their CHILDREN. why tf would anyone think making a movie so soon would be okay? these families are still affected and some parents are still searching for their children's body...

waaaay too early!

This is insane! you can not make a movie about such a tragedy is such a short time.... why worsen people's deep wounds?? This is too daring to be true, God forbid.

bangeryun94 Monday, March 27, 2017

I don't think it will ever be okay to make a movie about this.

Actually I think otherwise. This kind of tragedy needs to be remembered. There are so many lessons people need to learn from that story. But obviously not now, it's too early, not before at least 40 years I guess. I mean I don't know what is the proper ethical time for this kind of thing but yeah. I hope it will be a well-thought project and not some sensational movie to gain lot of profit.

The Korean people will never be okay with a movie about this. Our President was up to her eyeballs in this, shielding the people who owned the ferry while she and her friend made money by allowing the ferry to carry 7 times the allowed cargo weight which is what capsized the boat. The families of victims will not forget the government putting a pitiful price on each child's head and then attempting to threaten, bully and force families to take it. Koreans do not want this movie to ever be made. They don't want a single bit of money to be made from the murders of these kids, teachers and crew who weren't cowards and stayed and did their jobs.

seesaw4ever bangeryun94 Monday, March 27, 2017

The reason you quote are exactly why this event should never be forgotten. A movie is not always about the money. In this case it should be about reminding people and leave a message to the future generations. I admit it's not an easy task and not one that should be put in wrong hand. But only time will tell.

bangeryun94 seesaw4ever Monday, March 27, 2017

We will never pay money to see this. If it is released in other countries, there's nothing we can do about it.

teleri bangeryun94 Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Oh, I don't agree. But this is way too soon. I'm sure that there will be works of fiction (films, books) about this incident - just as there have been about other big tragedies like this from around the world. Really. I remember people insisting 9/11 films would never happen. Well, wrong....

bangeryun94 teleri Tuesday, March 28, 2017

9/11 films haven't been huge successes. People are inundated with cruelty, murder and destruction on a worldwide scale now. People, especially people my age, are becoming immune to seeing violence and terrorism.

teleri bangeryun94 Tuesday, March 28, 2017

I agree there - but they did still happen. I've seen the way films have gotten more & more graphic over the years since I was young :( Not really necessary so much of the time :(
