On July 2nd, at approximately 11:32 a.m., an SUV driven by a woman in her 80s crashed into the restaurant area of the Daegwallyeong rest area, located on the Yeongdong Expressway in Bogwang-ri, Seongsan-myeon, Gangneung, Gangwon Province.
According to police reports, the vehicle smashed through the restaurant’s front glass, causing extensive damage to the interior and disrupting the food court area.
A total of 16 people inside the restaurant were injured in the accident. Of those, six sustained moderate to serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. The remaining injured received on-site medical attention or were treated for minor injuries.
Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
