Netizens are riled up for the rude way the panelists on MBC's singing program 'Mask King' handled a contestant on the show, noting how this seems to be a pattern and a habit with them.

On July 26, someone posted 'Viewers' Opinion' on the home page of the show, expressing discomfort and disappointment and asking for an apology and a promise that this will not happen again.

Back on July 24, a singer appeared on the show with the 'Child Specter' name and mask. However, the judgmental comments of a few of the celebrities in the panel made viewers squirm with discomfort.

The panelists judged the singer's body with weirdly specific comments like, "She seems like a mother with a child," "These days, idols are very thorough at taking care of their figure, but she seems to have the turtle neck syndrome," "Her trapezius muscle stands out," "I don't think she's an idol," and more.  Afterwards, the singer was revealed to be none other than TWICE's Jihyo.

After the broadcast, many viewers flooded the internet with disapproving comments like, "Just like the name, 'Mask King' chooses the masked voice, but it seems they are focusing more on the person's body than his or her voice," "To harass someone like that because of his or her body.  I was extremely uncomfortable because of that part.  You should have edited it out before broadcasting it," "I am really enjoying 'Mask Body King.' Unless you're going to officially apologize and plow up your panelists, just continue the show under the changed title 'Mask Body King,'" "They sing while wearing a mask to avoid discrimination, so why do you always try to guess the age through external factors like the body?  Eyebrows were always raised whenever you inferred the age through the body, but wow, she must have been so hurt through this broadcast," "This is my first time writing out my opinions; even though they sing with masks on, I really don't think judging their body is the right thing.  Apologize, and I hope that you will do a feedback," "I thought your pointing out things about the participants' appearance was a bit severe, and just as expected, there is an explosion of grievances.  I believe this reaction is a given," "Why don't you just do 'Mask Best Body' instead of 'Mask King'?  I'm extremely disappointed," "Isn't this a program to find talented people by listening to their singing without considering their looks?  I don't know why people who don't know this purpose are sitting over there and listening to the singing," "The viewers wish that the panelists' comments making judgments about appearances would disappear and that there would be an apology," and more.

Producer Noh Si Yong spoke up about the criticism with, "Seeing as how they have to guess the identity through limited information like the voice because the face is covered by the mask in this program, this happened while they were trying to make deductions through the outer appearance.  However, it should have been kept in mind that the viewers could be uncomfortable by deductions like these.  The production crew will be careful so that something like this will not happen again as we work on the program."

I'm with netizens on this one. Body shaming should never be tolerated. And also, the producer should have just apologized instead of justifying body shaming. I mean, if his reason is that the panelists were trying to guess who, then how did they go from deducing the age through the body (which is mostly ineffective) to insulting the singers with comments like "turtle neck syndrome" and "seem(ing) like a mother with a child." They were obviously attempting humor and ended up being offensive.

It always surprises and amazes me at the usual type of people who belittle others for not having a "certain desired body image".  Why are they always the ones with a less than ideal physique themselves, often being more at the bottom of the vaguely attractive ladder than higher.  And yes, Kim Gura fits that bill perfectly.

When I'm reading some comments I think that some people never watched Mask King. There were a lot of harsh comments in the past, but no one made any fuss about them. Singers also never expressed their dissapointment. Why? Because it's a variety show and no one is taking it seriously. And actually such a comments from panelists are helping to guess who is behind the mask. The reactions on comments are really helpful for them and viewers. And also panelists admitted, after Jihyo took her mask off, that she has a good voice and complimented her.

It's not the first time they did that to a female guest

Even if they were to deduce through physical appearances, there are ways to give comments without insulting the person. It's the way you say it. Kim Gura is one of the panelists, right? Why am I not surprised...

It's just his opinion. Plus those comments are just random to be funny because of how they are dressed up anyway. People try to act differently and dress to make them self look different. So I don't understand why people take those comments to heart.
