On August 23, PLEDIS Entertainment confirmed to Dispatch that Seventeen’s Seungkwan will appear on MBC TV’s new variety show, 'Rookie Coach Kim Yeon Koung.'
The show follows volleyball legend Kim Yeon Koung as she embarks on her journey as a coach. Kim will personally establish a new volleyball team, the Pilsung Wonder Dogs, and take on the role of the team’s inaugural head coach.
Seungkwan will join the team as the manager, supporting Coach Kim and the players both on and off the court. Known for his lively personality, he is expected to bring energetic and positive vibes to the team.

A representative from MBC shared, “Seungkwan, a devoted volleyball fan, is excited to join the project. He is fully committed, even dedicating his personal time to participate.” Seungkwan has long been a fan of the women’s professional volleyball team Jung Kwan Jang Red Sparks (formerly Korea Ginseng Corporation), often spotted cheering at games and moved to tears during matches.
In May, Seungkwan also served as a guest commentator for Kim Yeon Koung’s final professional match, demonstrating his knowledge of volleyball and broadcasting skills. He expressed at the time, “It’s an honor. I send my respect and support to Kim Yeon Koung.”
MBC added, “This is Kim Yeon Koung’s first step into coaching. The show will deliver fresh entertainment and heartfelt moments. Fans can also look forward to the chemistry between Kim and passionate volleyball fan Seungkwan.”
'Rookie Coach Kim Yeon Koung' is set to premiere in September.
