Actress Jeon Hye Jin, who endured the heartbreak of losing her husband, the late actor Lee Sun Gyun in December 2023, is making a meaningful return to the stage. She will star in the solo play 'ANTHROPOLIS Ⅱ – Laios,' marking her first theatrical appearance in a decade.
The play will run from November 6 to 22 at the National Theater of Korea’s Myeongdong Arts Theater. This production is a domestic premiere, bringing a fresh theatrical experience to Korean audiences.
'Laios' is the second installment of Roland Schimmelpfennig’s Anthropolis Quintet, a series exploring tragedies from ancient Greek mythology based on the founding myth of the Theban royal family, one of Europe’s most famous origin myths.
Notably, 'Laios' is a one-person show, where Jeon Hye Jin will embody multiple characters, switching between voices and personas throughout the performance. This format highlights her versatility, offering audiences a rare opportunity to witness her transformative acting up close.
Jeon Hye Jin’s choice to return to theater with 'Laios' is especially noteworthy given her reputation for tackling challenging roles and delivering both critical acclaim and popular appeal. Her last stage appearance was in 2015 with 'Slowly, Chaimoo – A Story of Tail-Fur,' making this her first theatrical project in ten years.
Recently, Jeon Hye Jin drew attention for her compelling villain role in the Netflix film 'Mission: Cross,' while also portraying a relatable working mother balancing career and family in the drama 'Mother and Mom.' Her nuanced performances continue to captivate audiences across both film and television.
