The much-anticipated official music video for GOT7's debut track, "Girls, Girls, Girls," was finally released last week on January 15! Already coined as "the next 2PM," the group out of JYP Entertainment boasts a dynamic team of 7: Mark, Jackson, YoungJae, BamBam, YuGyeom, along with JB and Jr. from JJ Project. It won't take long for the fans to learn these names, with each member possessing distinct talent forming a cohesive group.
I've personally been looking forward to GOT7's debut since we got a sneak peek of them on WIN: Who Is Next--Mark, Jackson, YuGyeom, and BamBam's dance performance blew me away. And I can say that they lived up to my expectations; let's take a look at their new music video:
The music video concept reminded me a lot of "Beautiful" by B2ST--I'm personally a huge fan of the "mysterious school boys are actually badass underground hip-hop dancers" concept. However, more important than the concept(or the cool split screen effects used throughout the video) is that the boys showcased their unique dance talent by effectively pairing artistry with athleticism. I loved that the choreography incorporated simple and distinct dance moves and complicated acrobatic martial arts moves that we rarely see in K-pop group choreography. This combination sets them apart from the rest and I'm confident that they will be leading artists in the near future.
Musically, I believe this is a solid debut track. Although the lyrics were nothing to run home about, it was paired with a familiar yet unique backtrack--the best way I can describe it is street meets K-pop (someone help me out here!). Simply put, you can't go wrong with a catchy tune, especially when it's accompanied with awesome dance visuals. GOT7's got it right--girls, girls, girls do love them.
I'm betting on GOT7's giant impact on the K-pop scene in 2014, and I'm looking forward to seeing them grow into their own in terms of sound and style/fashion. I have no doubt that GOT7 will lead a new era of K-pop meets true foreign swag undertones, and I'm excited to continue following this promising group!
