On September 30th, YTN's 'Jung Ae Sook's Interview' sat down with MBC's 'Birth of a Great Star' winner Baek Chung Gang and talked about his decision to donate his prize money to charity.
Baek Chung Gang donated approximately $40,000 USD of his $100,000 USD prize money after coming away with the grand prize on the show. He stated, "It's a decision I made on my own. My parents aren't upset with the decision because they knew why I chose to donate it. They didn't say anything about it and supported me in telling me that I made a good decision."
When asked, "Your parents live in a home that rents for $300/month, did you want to do anything for them?", he replied, "From the moment I applied for the audition program, I was determined to donate at least half to charity no matter what if I won. After I did win, a lot of reporters came up to me and asked if I really did and whether I regretted it. I confidently told them that I don't regret it at all, nor am I upset about having to part ways with that money."
