Seo Ye Ji's label Gold Medalist responded to questions about her academic background.

After Gold Medalist's official statement on Seo Ye Ji's involvement in actor Kim Jung Hyun's controversy, the label responded to speculation about the actress' academic background. Though many were under the impression Seo Ye Ji had graduated Madrid's Complutense University of Madrid, her label clarified she was unable to attend due to her acting career.

However, netizens are now pointing out a past statement by the actress about her college attendance. On a 2017 'Knowing Brothers' episode, Seo Ye Ji had expressed, "After the college entrance exam, I was preparing to enter college, and I became fascinated with the pronunciation of Spanish. People from Spain speak in a low-pitched tone of voice. It was similar to me. That made me curious, so I begged my parents to let me go."

When the 'Knowing Brothers' cast members asked her, "You went to college there? A Spanish college? By yourself," Seo Ye Ji responded by nodding her head and saying, "Yeah." The actress said in an interview in October of the same year, "Why are people clinging to my past? There's talk that I left abroad for Spain when I was younger because I wanted to study to be an announcer and graduated there. I did study abroad in Spain because I liked it, but I didn't graduate college. I never dreamed of becoming an announcer. I've never said that either."

In response to her statement on the variety show, her label commented, "She made a mistake on the variety show because she was nervous and then she was suddenly asked a question in an unfamiliar environment. She tried to correct that immediately in an interview afterwards."
