Winter K-Beauty: Achieve the Frosty Glam Look (Korea’s Version)

The typical Korean makeup look incorporates hues of pink, red, and coral. Rarely do we ever get to see many makeup looks that expand beyond this.

However, when winter hits in Korea, makeup takes on a softer, icier elegance. With a less heavy contour, focusing more on creating luminous skin and eyes that reflect the shimmer of fresh snow. The frosty glam look in K-beauty is also about getting that cold-kissed look without it being too bold.

With the winter season passing, if you want to re-create the same look as if you just got slightly bitten by the crisp winter, well, here’s how you can achieve it. You can try out these winter looks right before the warm season of Spring comes.

For starters, this look relies heavily on the base prep. Now, a key point to the frosty look is to get glass skin. Don’t reach for the matte foundations; you’re going to want to reach for the foundation that has hydration and glow. Instead of going for the usual foundation in a bottle, the best way to achieve a hydrated glow without making it look cakey is to grab a lightweight cushion foundation. Suggestions for some of the best hydrated cushion foundations include Espoir Be Glow and Clio Mesh Glow.

Additionally, you want to begin by prepping your skin with a deeply hydrating toner and essence combination. A great tip of advice, instead of using the usual liquid toner, go for the toner pads as this will also get rid of any dry patches on your skin, which will then create a smoother surface for the foundation. A beloved toner pad is by far Anua Heartleaf 77 + PHA Toner pad, which provides exfoliation and hydration. Add additional hydration by applying COSRX Snail Mucin essence!

Now, after letting the toner and essence have enough time to soak in, go with the cushion foundation and make sure to apply it in thin layers. Afterwards, it’s all about having to spot conceal only where needed. This is absolutely key. Spot concealing in areas that you really need it means your skin will look just that much more natural. A favorite among many makeup artists is definitely The Saem's tricolored pot concealer.

Next, we move on to the eyes. Instead of reaching for the warm-toned shadows, you’ll want to reach for the cool-toned and sheer eye products to give off that iconic frosty, glazed look. Suggestions for which hues to stay within include: silver, cool-tone pink, lavender, and cool beige. After the rage that was personal colors, it’s now much easier to find specific palettes that only contain cool-toned colors. For example, Hince All Round Eye Palette is a compact, yet powerful palette giving all the cool-toned shades you need from lavender, cool pink, silver, and a muted brown. Just don’t forget that you want to add a wash of shimmer across the lid and into the inner corners to highlight for a more snowflake-like effect.

When it comes to the frosty glam look, it’s not about the heavy eyeliner, so keep the eyeliner minimal, using a light brown or gray color instead of black.

For the lips, you want to keep with the hydrated theme and go for glossy tints or a blurred gradient lip, but make sure that you stay within the shades of mauve pink, cool berry, rosy nude, or a soft wine color. To make it more frosty, you can reach for a glitter lip topper from Unleashia or grab yourself a clear glossy topper from Fwee to amp up the hydrated look.

To wrap up this look altogether seamlessly, it’s time to add in the winter-kissed look, and that is done by meticulously placing your blush. You want to place it high on your cheeks, and slightly towards the under eye area, with light taps diffuse out the blush so you don’t have any harsh edges. Fan favorites include Romnd Vine Nude or Odi Milk, and Peripera’s Morning Blush.

If you want to take this frosty glam look even further, finish up with a cozy beanie and head out the door with your new icy look!
