
When the heat becomes so sweltering, all you can think about is eating something light and flavorful. Something that can cool you down and lift your mood. Luckily enough, as Korea’s summer seasons are really hot, they’ve added some of the most refreshing dishes, so try them out!
1. Naengmyeon
A classic must-go-to dish during the hot season is naengmyeon, which consists of the chewy buckwheat noodles that are served in a chilled, tangy broth. Just a few sips of this broth and you’ll be cooled down in no time.
2. Samgyetang
Contrary to what people think, there are also a lot of people who tend to eat hot food in order to cool down, and samgyetang is definitely one of the hot dishes that is commonly eaten during the summer. It’s a light ginseng chicken soup that has lots of health benefits and supposedly helps you recharge your energy.
3. Kongguksu
If you’re a lover of cold noodles and want something soupy, then go ahead and try this silky soybean noodle soup. It’s creamy, nutty, and cooling. The debate now becomes whether you’re going to season it with a dash of sugar or salt.
4. Mul Kimchi
While your typical kimchi is spicy and red, mul kimchi is a lot more watery, slightly fizzy, and has a broth that’s very similar to pickle juice. It’s hydrating and perfectly refreshing.
5. Hwe
A great refreshing dish is always some fresh seafood, and Korean-style sashimi, often paired with a spicy dipping sauce, is perfect if you’re looking for something that’s not too heavy on the stomach.
6. Bingsu
Don’t underestimate this dish; it’s probably one of the most delicious, yummy dishes. It’s made with shaved ice topped with various fruits, sweet red beans, and condensed milk. It’s a perfect dessert on a hot day.
