Korean authorities have released an update on the case of the Australian woman who claimed that she was abducted, drugged and raped while vacationing in South Korea.

The Seoul Yongsan Police Station revealed through an official press release on May 24, "Since the victim confessed that she was in a drunken state, we asked about her alcohol intake capacity to find out just how drunk she was, and we investigated the case by following the proper protocol with the help of a translator and the victim's acquaintances."

The police added, "Through our continuous investigation, we have apprehended one of the suspects and submitted an indictment to prosecution for charges of sexual assault, and we're focusing on apprehending another suspect. There's no proof regarding the content that says the criminal will be punished for sexual harassment rather than sexual assault."

For some of the people hung up on her alcohol intake, it's really not that complicated:

Foreigners raping each other in Asia... What else is new?

upppy Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The drunker she was the less guilty her attackers are? Wow. Someone should remind the police (everywhere) that drinking is legal and rape is not.

I was thinking the same thing but could it also be if she was drunk she might have imagined it? I hope they don't let someone off though cause she was drunk

bang_nay Tuesday, May 24, 2016

The fact that she had been drinking shouldn't mean that these guys get off. I hope the Korean law doesn't disappoint and punish these guys properly

RGreene Tuesday, May 24, 2016

her "alcohol intake capacity" should not be a part of the case. Korea's interest in how much liquor a person can drink without getting drunk is fine to talk and laugh about, but not as part of a rape case.

I believe some people in the comments have not read the previous article. She reported that she was raped right away, but the korean police dismissed her story and did not collect any evidence (like blood samples or collect any sort of DNA evidence).

bangeryun94 amarei Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Wrong. They did. She demanded the evidence to take with her to Great Britain to have him arrested there and that's where officials balked at releasing evidence to the victim. They felt it could be compromised and British law enforcement were not requesting the evidence.

Man, I wish rape cases weren't so hard to prove.  On one hand, she could be screwing up an innocent man's life for good, but on the other her life has already been damaged.  No one knows the real truth except for her.

and the man....

Yep. And the man.

This is why it is important to report rape cases as soon as posible, you need proofs so the police can do their job properly.

gvantza iisstf28 Tuesday, May 24, 2016

there's more detailed articles out there. she went right to the hospital they didn't handle her case properly. it's so sad. they closed the case on her and she raised money to have it re-opened recently.

Proof of sex isn't proof of rape though. In many cases DNA testing can prove two people had sex but when you have one party claiming it was consensual and another claiming it wasn't there's nothing to help the victims case. Especially when we live in a culture that thinks a rape must have involved a degree of violence; "He raped me." "No we had sex." "I Didn't consent to it." "Show me the bruises then?" "I was too drunk to fight back." "Oh, well then how do you know you didn't consent? This is clearly all your own fault for drinking." Yep, that's the sick sad world we live in.

DesiRodri1254 pink_oracle Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Though getting drunk and not being able to respond is considered date rape because the person was not lucid enough to give consent.

iisstf28 gvantza Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Really?! Shit... Then this must be really difficult for her... I hope she finds the support she needs...

iisstf28 pink_oracle Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Ik and it sucks, but she was drugged and drunk when she was raped so she could have proven that she was telling the truth and even if she wasnt she could still catch the rapist easier that way

MitchTatsuoka pink_oracle Wednesday, May 25, 2016

On point. That's the same reason why most rape victims where alcohol's involved doesn't file cases. SIGH. Sick. Really.
