Singer BoA has concluded her 25 year journey with SM Entertainment and is launching a new chapter by establishing her own agency, BApal Entertainment.
On March 3rd KST, BApal Entertainment announced, “BoA has chosen a new structure to more clearly realize her musical direction,” officially confirming the establishment of her new company.
The name BApal combines “BoA” and “pal,” meaning friend. It reflects the vision of “BoA and friends” — a company built together by BoA and her fans — and signals her intention to create a structure that allows closer communication between artist and fans.
This decision marks not just an external change, but a reorganization aimed at focusing more deeply on the artist’s authentic identity and inner artistic direction. BApal stated, “The precious memories and invaluable experiences accumulated over many years of activity have become the most important assets shaping the strong artist BoA is today. Based on those lessons, she plans to further strengthen her musical foundation.”
BoA debuted in 2000 under SM Entertainment and rose to top tier status in both Korea and Japan, playing a pivotal role in the global expansion of K pop. At the end of last year, after discussions with SM Entertainment, she officially concluded her 25 year partnership.
Through her social media, she shared, “As much as we gave and received wholeheartedly, I leave without regrets. I am grateful for the time we shared and will continue to support the shining SM Entertainment. Thank you.”
SM Entertainment also expressed its respect, stating, “We remember every moment, from BoA’s remarkable debut that wrote a new chapter in Korean popular music history to her growth into a No.1 artist and producer. It was a true honor to walk alongside her on that brilliant journey.” The company added, “For 25 years, BoA has been SM’s pride, symbol, and defining figure. Although her exclusive contract has ended, we sincerely support her as she continues to shine even brighter as the ‘Star of Asia’ in her future activities and challenges.”
Moving forward, BoA plans to expand her musical world with even greater depth under her one person agency. BApal Entertainment stated, “We respect BoA’s profound musical identity and clear vision, and we will build an optimized environment that allows her artistic direction to unfold naturally and flexibly.”
