BLACKPINK has received consecutive praise from major international media outlets, recognized for both the musical quality of their latest release and its record breaking achievements.
Leading U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone spotlighted BLACKPINK’s third mini album ‘DEADLINE’ on February 28th of last month local time, stating that the group has “returned at the peak of their powers.” The publication added that “the world has been waiting for the magic created when all four members come together,” and noted that the album leaves listeners even more excited for what lies ahead.
In particular, Rolling Stone highlighted the album’s musical range and versatility across all tracks. The outlet praised the glamorous EDM sound of ‘JUMP,’ the dynamic title track ‘GO,’ the club driven ‘Me and my,’ the 1980s new wave inspired ‘Champion,’ and the acoustic based ‘Fxxxboy,’ applauding the group’s wide genre spectrum.
The magazine further welcomed how ‘DEADLINE’ fully captures BLACKPINK’s signature confidence and bold charisma, emphasizing that while each member’s individuality stands out, they ultimately showcase their presence in the way the group does best — through undeniable full group synergy.
Billboard also delivered an in depth review of every track, examining the group’s musical achievements on the album. Regarding ‘GO,’ the outlet wrote that the “intense rap, smooth vocals and innovative beat drop are striking,” calling it “the standout track of the album and one that truly represents BLACKPINK.” It added that the refrain “Blackpink’ll make ya” is poised to become a chant echoed by audiences worldwide.
Business magazine Forbes focused on the commercial success of ‘DEADLINE,’ underscoring BLACKPINK’s overwhelming global competitiveness. The publication reported that the album recorded the highest first day sales in history for a K pop female artist, surpassing 1.46 million copies, and emphasized that the group is “the only K pop female act to have multiple albums selling over one million copies in a single day.”
The album’s global metrics further support the critical acclaim. ‘DEADLINE’ topped the iTunes album charts in 38 regions worldwide, claiming the No. 1 spot on the global chart. On China’s largest music platform QQ Music, not only the title track ‘GO’ but also the album’s B sides ranked at the top, achieving an all track sweep.
Additionally, BLACKPINK’s influence on YouTube remains unmatched. On their official channel, which boasts 100 million subscribers, the ‘GO’ music video ranked No. 1 on YouTube Worldwide Trending upon release and became the most viewed video within 24 hours globally. It immediately topped the global daily popular music video chart and has since surpassed 34 million views while maintaining the No. 1 position on the trending music chart.
