STAYC’s Sieun is set to take on her first musical role since her debut.
On February 2, High Up Entertainment announced, “Sieun has been cast as Songhwa in the musical 'Seopyeonje'.” The production is based on the short story of the same name by acclaimed author Lee Cheong Jun and follows the journey of a family of Pansori singers, exploring the meaning and value of sound through their lives. Pansori is the traditional Korean genre of musical storytelling, where a single vocalist and a drummer perform strong emotional narratives.
Sieun will portray Songhwa, a blind pansori singer who stands firmly against her destiny and the path laid out before her. A true artist, Songhwa grows through a life marked by wandering and separation, ultimately reaching artistic transcendence through sound despite countless trials.
Sieun has built a broad and dedicated fan base through her activities with STAYC and is also a former child actress. Her steadily accumulated acting experience is expected to shine as she brings Songhwa’s emotional arc to life with a contemporary sensibility.
Meanwhile, 'Seopyeonje' will run from April 30 to July 19 at the BBCH Hall of Gwanglim Arts Center.
