Wendy shared a surprising story about how her parents failed to recognize her after she gained a significant amount of weight and adopted a bold new style during her time studying abroad.
In a video released on February 26 on actress Han Go Eun's YouTube channel Go Eun Unnie, Wendy looked back on her years studying in Canada, joking, “All I did was eat,” as she laughed.
She revealed, “I gained about 10 to 15 kg (22 lbs to 33 lbs) in one year,” drawing surprise. She explained that she was also going through a rebellious phase at the time, which led to a dramatic change in her appearance. Wendy said, “I bleached half of my hair and wore a skull tie.”

When she returned to Korea after finishing her studies, her family, who had been waiting for her at the airport, did not recognize her. She shared, “My mom and sister just walked past me.” And she continued, “So I went up to them myself and said, ‘Mom, it’s me.’” She added, “My mom asked, ‘What happened to you?’” recalling the moment.
Wendy explained that her conservative parents were quite shocked by her image transformation. She elaborated, “After that day, I dyed my hair back and cleaned up my style.”
In the same video, Wendy also spoke candidly about experiencing racism during her time abroad and shared her journey of overcoming those difficult experiences to become who she is today.
