Actor Park Jung Min personally issued an apology following the sudden cancellation of the play ‘Life of Pi.’
On February 11, Park Jung Min shared a lengthy statement of apology through SEM Company’s social media. He began by saying, “I sincerely apologize to all the audience members who came to the performance last night.”
As the lead actor, he conveyed his remorse over the cancellation caused by a lighting equipment malfunction. He acknowledged responsibility, stating, “This was our fault, one that cannot comfort the shock the audience must have felt.”
He continued, “When I think of the audience members who had to turn back with the theater doors never opening, I have no words, even if I had ten mouths.” He described the time, energy, and heartfelt anticipation audiences gave to see the show as “a debt that cannot be repaid.”
Park Jung Min also explained the delay in his apology. “I thought we should prepare alternatives before offering an apology. An apology without a solution could instead be irresponsible,” he wrote. To console those who missed the show, he proposed organizing a special additional performance. He expressed hope that “the re-performance can offer at least a small measure of comfort.”
While thanking audiences for their support and encouragement, he again expressed regret, writing, “I feel deeply ashamed for having made you go through an experience you did not want.” He concluded by promising, “For the remaining performances, the actors and staff will work even harder,” adding, “On behalf of the team, I sincerely apologize once again. I am truly sorry.”

Earlier that day, the production of ‘Life of Pi’ canceled the scheduled performance just five minutes before showtime. A notice was posted stating that the show could not proceed due to “technical defects.” During final inspections, a malfunction in the lighting equipment was discovered. Although repair efforts continued up until the performance, an unidentified malfunction occurred, ultimately leading to the cancellation.
The equipment has since been restored to normal condition. The production company stated, “We take full responsibility. We will provide guidance regarding refunds and a re-performance,” offering two options. Ticket holders for the canceled show may attend an additional performance on February 16 at 7:30 PM at the GS Arts Center.
The show will proceed with the same seats and cast. For those unable to attend, refunds are available. The production promised a 110% refund of the ticket price, and reservations may be canceled without fees until February 16.
