The stage play ‘Life of Pi,’ starring Park Jung Min, is facing controversy after the performance was abruptly canceled just minutes before it was scheduled to begin.
According to the performing arts industry on February 10, the 7:30 PM show set for that evening was suddenly called off at approximately 7:25 PM, only five minutes before curtain. The production company cited a “technical malfunction” as the reason for the cancellation.
Soon after, the production team released an emergency notice stating that all ticket holders would receive a refund worth 110 percent of their original payment. The company said, “We will provide individual text messages and further guidance in sequence. We bow our heads in apology once again to the audience members who came to the theater.”
Despite the compensation plan, frustration among audience members at the venue did not die down easily. As the performance had drawn fierce ticket competition due to Park Jung Min’s casting, many attendees had traveled from different parts of the country. Several stressed that “the issue is not the refund, but how the situation was handled,” voicing strong dissatisfaction.
Criticism quickly spread across official social media and online communities. Audience members wrote comments such as, “Does canceling five minutes before the show even make sense? It was hard enough to get tickets, and there was not even a proper audible announcement. It feels irresponsible,” and “We were waiting right in front of the theater doors, and they informed us of the cancellation five minutes before start time through an announcement we could barely hear. There was no basic courtesy.” Another comment read, “If it was a technical issue, shouldn’t the actors at least have come out to greet the audience?”
Meanwhile, ‘Life of Pi’ is a stage adaptation of the globally bestselling novel 'Life of Pi.' The canceled performance was set to feature Park Jung Min alongside Hwang Man Ik, JuA, and Jin Sang Hyun.
