Next-generation singer-songwriter Hanroro (real name Han Ji Soo) is facing indiscriminate online attacks from some netizens over her past expression of political views.
Recently, online communities and social media resurfaced the fact that Hanroro participated in a public petition related to the “motion to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol” in December 2024. At the time, she had posted a verification photo on her personal account showing that she agreed with the petition.
As this information spread belatedly, far-right-leaning netizens flocked to Hanroro’s social media accounts, leaving what is often referred to as “targeted harassment” comments. Some used derogatory variations of her name, while others made personal attacks such as “Political singers should be driven out” and “Are you a spy?” As the situation escalated, Hanroro has reportedly responded by closing the comment sections on some of her posts.
The majority of netizens and fans have reacted with disbelief over the situation. Supporters have defended Hanroro, saying that “Participating in a petition is a legitimate right in a democratic country” and “There should be strong legal action against indiscriminate harassment.”
Hanroro debuted in 2022 with the digital single Ipchun and has since built her own musical identity as a singer-songwriter. With music that blends lyrical storytelling and band sounds, she has earned attention among the MZ generation, gaining the nickname “poet of youth.”
In particular, "You Will Come to Love" from her first EP 'Strange Flight', released in 2023, has recently climbed back up music charts, significantly boosting her public recognition. Last year, she continued her career momentum by winning the Popularity Award at the Melon Music Awards (MMA).
