Broadcaster Kim Young Chul candidly shared the difficult family circumstances that shaped his strong work ethic.
On the January 21 episode of 'Yoo Quiz on the Block' episode 328, Kim appeared as a guest, with host Yoo Jae Suk acknowledging his reputation as a skilled conversationalist.
Kim Young Chul revealed that he has hosted a morning radio program for 10 years and has studied English every day for 23 years. He explained the reasons behind his lifelong diligence, saying,“My parents fought a lot. The image I remember of my father is him drinking and suddenly flipping over the table. When my older brother passed away in a traffic accident during my senior year of high school, my mother, who already felt unloved by her husband, lost her eldest son. I did not want to upset her over even the smallest things.”
He continued by sharing that he began delivering newspapers in the fifth and sixth grades to help support his mother, even buying rice for the household. “It felt good to be able to help,” he said. “Through newspaper delivery, I learned the importance of keeping promises. I was once scolded badly because I skipped work on a rainy day, thinking no one would read the paper. Looking back, I realize that I started with small things that could help my mother and never skipped school. I think diligence naturally became part of who I am.”
The episode aired on tvN, giving viewers a heartfelt look into the experiences that shaped Kim Young Chul’s disciplined and steady approach to life and work.
