Comedian Jo Se Ho’s return to broadcasting is facing renewed controversy, as the netizen who initially raised allegations linking him to individuals connected to organized crime has issued fresh claims and warned of further disclosures.
On January 7, an online user identified as Netizen A posted on social media in response to news of Jo Se Ho’s comeback, questioning the timing of his return. The user alleged that an acquaintance of Jo Se Ho, previously suspected of ties to organized crime, had fled overseas, thereby hindering any potential investigation. Netizen A further warned that they were prepared to release a video allegedly filmed at the acquaintance’s residence that includes Jo Se Ho and his wife.
Netizen A stated that they had refrained from making additional claims while Jo Se Ho was withdrawn from public activities, interpreting his hiatus as a period of self-reflection. However, the user argued that his return to broadcasting after only a short break prompted renewed concern. The post also questioned whether the sequence of events surrounding the acquaintance’s departure abroad and Jo Se Ho’s comeback was merely coincidental.
The controversy first surfaced in November last year, when allegations emerged accusing Jo Se Ho of maintaining close relationships with individuals linked to organized crime and of receiving expensive gifts allegedly connected to illegal money laundering. Jo Se Ho firmly denied all accusations, repeatedly stating that he was neither directly nor indirectly involved in any criminal activity and that he had never accepted illicit gifts.
Despite these denials, public criticism intensified, leading Jo Se Ho to step down from major television programs, including KBS 2TV’s '2 Days & 1 Night' and tvN’s 'You Quiz on the Block.'
Last month, the production team of Netflix’s variety show 'SCREWBALLS' confirmed that Jo Se Ho would continue appearing in the upcoming season, marking his return approximately 22 days after he announced a suspension of activities.
Following this announcement, Netizen A reiterated their intention to disclose additional information, signaling that the controversy surrounding Jo Se Ho’s comeback remains unresolved and continues to draw public attention.
