Singer CHUU—who is actively promoting following the release of her first full-length album 'XO, My Cyberlove'—has unveiled a new pictorial and interview with Singles.
In the February issue pictorial, Chuu moves beyond her signature bright and lovable image, presenting a more mature atmosphere that reflects a deepened musical world and signals the beginning of a new chapter.
In the accompanying interview, Chuu spoke about the mid-to-low register vocals featured throughout the album, saying, “From the intro to the end, I sang in the vocal tone I can express best. I was so immersed that we finished recording without any revisions.” She added, “The choreography looks cute and delicate, but it’s actually quite demanding, so I’ve been practicing a lot on my own.”
Addressing the pressure of releasing her first full-length album, she shared candidly, “These days, I fall asleep the moment I get home because I’m pouring so much passion into it. This album especially feels like a ‘challenge’ to me.” She continued, “I’d been wanting to try something new, so I’m really glad I met XO, My Cyberlove at this time.”
When asked about the message behind the album, Chuu explained, “The songs tell a story about AI learning and discovering the emotion of ‘love’ like a human. But beneath that is a message about how we’re already living, loving, and behaving almost like AI.” She elaborated that while emotions were once conveyed through words, eye contact, or holding hands, expressing feelings through messages, emojis, and photos has now become the norm—sometimes making love feel indirect or incomplete. “Even so,” she said, “people still want to be connected to one another, and that’s the feeling I wanted to express through this album.”
The conversation also turned to Kim Ji Woo’s everyday life away from the stage. Chuu shared that she doesn’t strictly separate her on-stage persona from herself, saying she feels happiest when doing what she truly wants. Traveling, swimming, and writing in her diary serve as small but grounding routines. Referring to a line she once saved in her phone’s memo app, she added that she fills her days with the belief that “small things protect me and help me endure.”
Toward the end of the interview, Chuu expressed her hopes moving forward, saying, “I never want to lose the passion and the sparkling feeling I have for what I’m doing now.” She added, “I don’t regret choosing this path, and I want to keep moving forward without wavering.”
Chuu’s pictorial and heartfelt interview—showcasing a still-lovely yet more mature and grounded side of the artist—can be found in the February issue of Singles and on its official website.
