Actress Park Shin Hye donated 100 million KRW (about 67,000 USD) to support single-parent families, drawing inspiration from her recent acting experiences.
The international relief and development NGO, Hope Friends Korea (KFHI), announced on March 13 that Park Shin Hye contributed the donation as part of her ongoing Starlight Angel Project, which she has carried out with her global fans since 2012 to support underprivileged children.
Park Shin Hye donated, portraying Hong Keum Bo in the tvN drama 'Undercover Miss Hong,' which concluded on March 8. Through the role, she developed a deeper understanding and empathy for the challenges faced by single-parent households.
She stated, “While playing Misook and Bom in Dormitory Room 301, I confronted the realities they face. I wanted to offer help and warmth to single-parent families who experience similar struggles and concerns.”
Hope Friends Korea plans to use the donation to provide practical assistance to single-parent families, including financial support and childcare resources, addressing both economic and emotional hardships.
Choi Chang Nam, Chairman of Hope Friends Korea, commented, “Ambassador Park Shin Hye’s heartfelt generosity will provide real help to families in need and serve as an opportunity for society to pay more attention to the challenges faced by single-parent households.”
Park Shin Hye first partnered with Hope Friends Korea in 2011 and has since served as a goodwill ambassador, advocating for marginalized communities both domestically and internationally. The Starlight Angel Project, launched in 2012, is a charitable initiative led by Park Shin Hye and her fan club to support children living in challenging circumstances.
