The production company behind the musical ‘Anna Karenina’ has stated, “We have nothing to say,” regarding the controversy over Ock Joo Hyun’s performance allocation.
On January 28th KST, the ‘Anna Karenina’ production team addressed the ongoing debate surrounding the distribution of show dates, saying, “Casting and performance scheduling are the exclusive authority of the production company and the original creators, so we have nothing further to say.”
‘Anna Karenina’ features triple casting for the title role of Anna Karenina, played by Ock Joo Hyun, Kim So Hyang, and Lee Ji Hye. Out of 38 performances announced through March 20, Ock Joo Hyun is scheduled for 23 shows, Kim So Hyang for 7, and Lee Ji Hye for 8. The imbalance in the number of performances has led to divided opinions among fans.
Amid the controversy, Kim So Hyang drew attention on the 27th by posting the phrase “I have a lot to say but won’t” on her personal social media.
Ock Joo Hyun was previously involved in casting-related allegations during the 2022 musical ‘Elisabeth’, which has further heightened public interest in the current issue.
Meanwhile, ‘Anna Karenina’, based on Tolstoy’s novel, is set in late 19th-century Russian aristocratic society. The musical will run from February 20 to March 29 at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul.
