Singer Roy Kim addressed long-standing rumors surrounding his so-called “pre-plastic-surgery” photos, explaining that the viral images were simply taken during an awkward stage of his adolescence.
On December 2, YouTube channel Hong Suk Chun’s Jewel Box (topgaybox) released its 24th video of Season 4 featuring Roy Kim as the guest.
During the conversation, Roy Kim chose his early elementary school days as his “visual peak,” confessing, “I think the time I looked the best was in the lower grades of elementary school. I got uglier once puberty hit.”
He continued, “My face around the time I moved from middle school to high school was probably the worst. That’s why there are so many photos going around labeled ‘Roy Kim before plastic surgery.’” He then clarified the rumor directly, saying, “It wasn’t plastic surgery, it was just time. Puberty basically made me look as bad as a ‘before plastic surgery’ photo.”
Roy Kim also shared that before pursuing music, he originally dreamed of becoming a comedian as a child. However, he eventually gave up on that path, admitting, “There are always kids who are hilarious without doing anything. I knew I couldn’t beat them, so my dream changed.”
