Broadcaster Kim Dae Ho has come under criticism after sharing a photo that appears to show him smoking a cigar indoors.
On December 22, Kim posted a single photo on his social media account. In the image, he is seen smoking a cigar in what looks to be his home, dressed casually in a relaxed setting. Along with the photo, Kim left comments such as “Can’t we make peace with the U.S.?” and “I want to go refill my cigars,” openly expressing his fondness for cigars.
Known for candidly sharing his daily life, Kim Dae Ho has built a positive image as a hobby enthusiast. Although the location shown is believed to be his detached house, reactions were divided. Some critics pointed out that the photo appeared to have been taken by someone else and raised concerns about indoor smoking given that Kim is known to have a pet cat, saying that both the act itself and posting it publicly lacked caution.
Some netizens commented, “Regardless of whether it’s right or wrong, it shows a lack of awareness,” “There’s a social perception around this, so why do it at all?” and “Doesn’t he raise a cat?” Others defended him, responding, “Is it really a problem if he’s smoking in his own home, especially a detached house?” and “People are being overly meddlesome.”
Kim Dae Ho joined MBC as an announcer in 2011 and remained active with the network for many years. He left the company in February and transitioned to working as a freelance broadcaster. Since then, he has appeared on a range of television variety programs such as 'I Live Alone,' 'The Great Guide 2.5,' and 'Taste Relay: Where One Host Leads' to Another, as well as various web-based entertainment shows.
