Actor Jung Kyung Ho was visibly flustered when asked a pointed question about a “date.”
On December 2, tvN’s new weekend drama 'Pro Bono' held its online production presentation via live stream. Director Kim Sung Yoon and cast members Jung Kyung Ho, So Ju Yeon, Lee Yoo Young, Yoon Na Moo, Seo Hye Won, and Kang Hyung Seok attended to introduce the series.
'Pro Bono' is a human legal drama that follows an ambitious, self-serving judge who unexpectedly becomes a public-interest lawyer. After being relegated to a tiny corner office with a public-service legal team that generates zero revenue, he finds himself navigating a series of chaotic yet heartfelt cases.
In the drama, Jung Kyung Ho plays Kang David, a judge beloved by the public. Despite graduating from high school rather than university, he climbed the ranks for 15 years through competence and strategic flattery, eventually becoming the youngest division chief in the corruption investigation department and nearing a Supreme Court appointment. But after a mistake he can’t even remember, his career collapses overnight. He is then forced to join the Pro Bono Team at top law firm O&Partners, where he must achieve a 70% win rate to regain his footing.
Director Kim explained, “What sets this apart from other legal dramas is its focus on public-interest cases—stories about marginalized people who lack access to legal services. Their painful experiences expand into broader issues that reflect the social challenges in Korea today.”
He added, “Kang David is an issue-maker. Even the smallest cases grow into episodes that shake the entire country. That process itself is incredibly entertaining, so I hope viewers pay close attention.”
During the event, MC Park Kyung Lim jokingly asked Jung Kyung Ho to break some news befitting his “issue-maker” role. He immediately waved it off, saying he had nothing to reveal. Park Kyung Lim brought it up again during the closing remarks, teasing him further, and Jung Kyung Ho laughed nervously, insisting, “No matter how hard I think, there’s no issue.”
Director Kim then chimed in playfully, suggesting, “At least a date,” which caught Jung Kyung Ho off guard. The remark carried extra weight because he has been publicly dating Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung since 2012—now in their 14th year together—raising the possibility that the “date” could be interpreted as a wedding date.
Flustered, Jung Kyung Ho shut it down immediately: “What date? Don’t say unnecessary things. There’s no such thing.” Park Kyung Lim joked again, “Then share the premiere date or even your birthday,” prompting Jung Kyung Ho to respond with a grin, “The first episode airs December 6. My birthday is August 31,” drawing laughter from the room.
'Pro Bono' premieres on December 6 at 9:10 PM.
