EXO’s Chanyeol is set to remake an OST from the iconic drama 'Winter Sonata'.
On December 24 at 6 PM KST, Chanyeol will release his reinterpretation of 'From the Beginning Until Now' through major online music platforms. The song is a remake of the main theme from the drama Winter Sonata.
This release is part of the 20th Anniversary of the Korean Wave Launch Project. 'From the Beginning Until Now', originally sung by Ryu, is the signature theme of Winter Sonata, known for its beautiful piano-led introduction. Chanyeol’s voice is layered over the familiar melody, amplifying the song’s sorrowful and heartfelt emotions.
Through this project, Chanyeol showcases a more emotional ballad style, revealing a different side of his musical charm. As the song was closely tied to key scenes that heightened viewers’ immersion in the drama, expectations are high for the renewed sense of emotion delivered through Chanyeol’s vocals.
Adding further significance, Park Jung Won, who served as the original music director for 'Winter Sonata', participated as the executive producer for this remake. The arrangement features a rich blend of instruments, including shimmering piano melodies, a 16-member string section, acoustic guitar, and powerful drum sounds, creating a layered and immersive listening experience.
Originally aired on KBS2 in 2002, 'Winter Sonata' is widely regarded as the starting point of the Korean Wave, enjoying overwhelming popularity across Asia, particularly in Japan. In 2003, it was broadcast in Korean on Japan’s NHK, where it received explosive support from middle-aged female viewers and played a major role in expanding the Hallyu industry.
The 20th Anniversary of the Korean Wave Launch Project has previously featured artists such as Chuu, I-DLE’s Miyeon, and Pentagon’s Hui, who participated by remaking OSTs from 'Summer Scent', 'Autumn in My Heart', and 'Winter Sonata', respectively. Alongside Chanyeol’s main theme remake, additional project releases will be unveiled sequentially throughout this winter.
Chanyeol’s 'From the Beginning Until Now' will be released on December 24 at 6 PM via major online music platforms, with a teaser video also being unveiled alongside the release.
