YouTuber SangHyuk (real name Kwon Sang Hyuk, age 33) has issued an apology roughly 40 days after being caught driving under the influence.
On November 1, SangHyuk posted on his YouTube channel, writing, “I’m truly sorry for not addressing this for such a long time. I’ve been consumed with guilt and fear, and I struggled to find the right words, knowing I had disappointed those who trusted me.”
He continued, “I’ve spent a lot of time alone, deeply reflecting on myself. Every day, I’ve been coming to terms with how wrong my actions were and how many people I hurt because of them. To everyone who cared for me and waited for me — I sincerely apologize. I’m so sorry, and I’m truly grateful.”
SangHyuk was arrested on September 21, around 3:40 AM, for driving under the influence from Gangnam-gu to Songpa-gu, Seoul. When police responded to a report, he allegedly parked his vehicle and fled about 300 meters on foot. He repeatedly refused a breathalyzer test before being arrested on the spot.
Initially reported only as a “1.65 million-subscriber mukbang YouTuber,” online users quickly speculated that the individual was SangHyuk. Following intense criticism, he switched his Instagram account to private, and his YouTube channel reportedly lost around 40,000 subscribers.
It was later revealed that SangHyuk had two prior DUI convictions in 2020 and 2022.
