
Seoul authorities have confirmed that popular mukbang creator SangHyuk, who has 1.65 million subscribers, was caught on CCTV fleeing the scene after driving under the influence. The incident took place in Songpa District, Seoul, in the early hours of September 21.
According to the Songpa Police, a man in his 30s, identified as SangHyuk, was stopped for suspected drunk driving around 3:40 a.m. When police attempted to conduct a breathalyzer test, he refused. He abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot for approximately 300 meters. This act is a violation under South Korea’s Road Traffic Act.
CCTV footage released by multiple media outlets shows SangHyuk holding hands with a woman as they ran from police. The video clearly captures the pair being pursued along the street, confirming that the escape took place as reported.
Following the release of the footage, speculation grew online that the individual involved was SangHyuk. Fans and netizens left comments on his channel urging him to explain. SangHyuk remained silent and subsequently deleted his SNS account, which intensified public scrutiny.
SangHyuk began his career in 2018 as a BJ on AfreecaTV before launching his personal mukbang channel in 2019. In addition to content creation, he founded the French fry brand Brussels Fries, which has expanded to around 30 locations nationwide, achieving notable success as an entrepreneur.
Police are continuing their investigation to establish the full details of the case. SangHyuk has not made a public statement regarding the incident.
