Following recent revelations in a court ruling, corporate messaging platform Slack has come under the spotlight in connection with Min Hee Jin.
Former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin allegedly instructed a subordinate via company chat to dig up potential faults of several popular HYBE artists using Slack. The disclosure of these messages is expected to generate significant controversy.
The chat messages were cited in a first-instance ruling on October 30, in which ADOR sued the five members of NewJeans to confirm the validity of their exclusive contracts. The judgment, which ultimately favored ADOR, is now publicly accessible through South Korea’s largest legal platform, LBOX.
According to the ruling, Min Hee Jin, while serving as CEO of ADOR, directed an employee. She said, "Find anything that could be used to file a lawsuit, whether it is business interference, Fair Trade Commission violations, breaches of commercial law, or embezzlement. Look for all available evidence." She added, "You only need to do this. The more you find, the better."
The messages reportedly include Min Hee Jin explicitly naming several HYBE artists and instructing the employee to locate potential issues via the company’s internal messaging platform, Slack. The ruling details a statement from Min Hee Jin. She said, "You have found that much on Slack, so whether it is XX or XX or XX, there must be more. You cannot erase Slack history, after all."
Slack is widely used as a corporate communication tool and continues to be employed by HYBE for work purposes. The court noted that these newly disclosed messages appeared to serve as preparatory work for generating negative public sentiment toward HYBE and ADOR. The messages raised questions about the authenticity of ADOR’s claims regarding NewJeans’ alleged breaches.
Specifically, the court stated, "The reasons cited by the defendants, NewJeans, for the plaintiff, ADOR’s, alleged failures appear to be the result of Min Hee Jin’s prior efforts to examine materials between HYBE, the plaintiff, and the defendants. She identified elements necessary to generate negative sentiment toward HYBE and to support litigation."
Legal experts note the irony of Min Hee Jin’s actions. In attempting to uncover potential offenses such as business interference, commercial law violations, and embezzlement, she could herself face legal scrutiny.
One industry insider said, "Even based solely on these actions, ADOR and its parent company HYBE could pursue claims against Min Hee Jin for breach of duty, unauthorized use of personal data under privacy laws, trade secret violations, abuse of authority, and defamation, among other civil and criminal liabilities."
